My name is Sunny and I’m a freelance illustrator living and working in Portland, Oregon. I grew up in southern Colorado, began my illustration career in Brooklyn, New York, and now consider the Pacific Northwest home.

I create editorial, lifestyle, and commercial illustrations. My work uses a simple shape language and limited colors brought forth with bold, expressive line work. My style is tacit but playful, understated but striking. I love translating the details of daily life into my artwork, giving meaning and attention to things often overlooked.

Outside of illustration, I teach barre and cycling at a fitness studio in NE Portland. I particularly love the seemingly simple but effective movements of barre. The focus on small details and intentional effort mirrors the ‘less is more’ philosophy in my work.

Other interests include thrifting and estate sales, investigative podcasts, reading in the sun, afternoon treat walks, beverages and snacks, noticing the way light comes through my windows, and theoretical astrophysics.

I’ve previously taught in the illustration department at the Pacific Northwest College of Art.

I’m represented by Loud Cloud Agency. Please email hey@sunnyeckerle.com or contact@theloudcloud.com for project inquiries.
